update MP3 tags to include BPM info extracted from the files, while not losing other information already existing in those tags.

I'd just like to know if anyone has a great software suggestion for this. I've made some research on it, and found some freeware and paid solutions. That being done, it would be very easy for him to play around and create his playlists. He is happy with it, but the only thing missing for him (he works as a DJ sometimes) is the ability to automatically maintain all his songs BPM (beats per minute) information, and create those automatic playlists based on it.Īs far as I've researched, the ID3v2 tag format allows BPM tagging, so the only thing missing here is getting another software that could automatically analyse a bunch of MP3 songs, identify their BPM's and tag their respective ID3v2 information accordingly. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data - legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g.A friend of mine started using a music player and manager that can dynamically create playlists based on MP3 tags. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Timetm).

I thought I'd ask /r/datahoarder first even though /r/musichoarder is more relevant simply because the userbase is much higher. I've been using a combination of scripts (which hook into the Itunes API) and MP3Tag (also with an Itunes database plugin) but it's far from automated and is tedious. Also this configuration is from my Store web application, I also a have a jaikoz and a songkong web application both of these define one of the connections. I much prefer Gracenote, but a large amount of the software that used to work with CDDB doesn't seem to anymore.

I want something that can plow through a huge directory structure of music and tag it, ideally with Gracenote's database (does MP3tag have an addon for it?) so that I don't have to do a bunch of manual work. What works for you? What would work in theory if you haven't tested it yet? #Jaikoz tutorials manual# I've seen some promising options on github - a couple programs only work on android, though, another one for PC I can't get to work with mp3tag (it's a freedb proxy for gracenote), and another script for gracenote ala mp3tag that is either unfinished, or outdated. I like musicbee, and beets looks a bit intimidating, but maybe I'll try that out. Post any more solutions you can think of below and I'll check/try them out. Hopefully I can do better than the Itunes tagging I have been using at any rate.

Songkong and Jaikoz look interesting, but they seem to have limited databases. I managed to get a gracenote addon working through mp3tag, but I was underwhelmed by the poor results for my music.

TuneUp, a program I have used in the past for tagging music, does quite well, but it is buggy, slow and crashes regularly.
